We’re FREEZING For A Good Cause!

UPDATE:  The Polar Bear Plunge has been rescheduled for Jan. 30th.  So you still have time to donate or come cheer us on!

As many of our Forklift Fans know, Community Forklift staff just love to get involved in a good cause. Many of us volunteer at shelters, help on Habitat for Humanity building crews, sit on local advisory committees and boards, and attend events related to our favorite causes. But what you might not have heard about is our small troupe of salvage superheros who ban together each year under the team name of FORKLIFT FREEZERS!

“Forklift Freezers!?! What’s that all about?”

Our 2014 Forklift Freezer team

Well, I’ll tell you – Every January the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) hosts a huge Polar Bear Plunge right here in Prince George’s County. The “Keep Winter Cold” Polar Bear Plunge is CCAN’s biggest fundraising event, powering victories to move our region off of fossil fuels and to clean energy. Each year, activists, friends and families show their commitment to fighting climate change by jumping in the icy Potomac River at National Harbor.

The Forklift Freezers are a small band of Community Forklift staff and fans who plunge into the icy Potomac River to raise awareness and funds for this wonderful cause. It’s cold, it’s wet, and it’s a GREAT TIME!

Community Forklift’s CEO, Nancy Meyer, taking the plunge for climate change!

We’d love to have our friends and fans join in and support our passion (folly?) for building a healthier environment, and we have a number of ways you can help!

DONATE! The Forklift Freezers have set themselves a lofty goal of raising over $1,000 this year! If you’d like to help us reach this goal and support our icy recklessness please consider donating to one of the Forklift Freezers* on our team’s Polar Bear Plunge page: https://www.crowdrise.com/aderynbright-CCANPolarPlunge20

CHEER US ON! We love having our friends and family on shore cheering for us and joining in our excitement – It’s also an added bonus to have folks ready with a dry towel and a warm cup of coffee!  If you’d like to join our Peanut Gallery please email us at Events@CommunityForklift.org so we know you’re coming.

If you choose to join the team, please email Events@CommunityForklift.org so that we can include you in our plans and make sure you get all of the insider details.

We’d also like to THANK everyone who has already contributed to this cause and those who have plunged with us over the years. Without your support and donations we’d just be a bunch of crazy people running into the icy Potomac River! But with your help we get to be crazy people with a cause!

Josh Bombeck Polar Bear Plunge

In memory of our dear friend and coworker, Josh Bombeck

* For those of you that knew and loved our dear Josh Bombeck, we’d like you to know that we’ve set up a Forklift Freezer profile in his honor. Josh was our most enthusiastic and avid plunger each year and we will be remembering him as we plunge later this month.
