First, here’s a great reason to eat a nice meal out! This Wednesday, May 16th, Christmas in April is hosting a fundraiser at Mama Stella’s Ristorante Italiano in Clinton. When you eat lunch or dinner at Mama Stella’s that day, 20% of all sales will be donated to Christmas in April of Prince George’s County. Even if you can’t make it, you should contact them to buy a raffle ticket – you could win a week’s vacation in NYC!
Since 2011, Community Forklift has been proud to partner with Christmas in April of Prince George’s County. They are a volunteer organization that repairs the homes of senior citizens who are low-income and/or physically challenged so they may live happily independent in a safe living environment. Repairs are done free of charge and take place all in one day, which is every last Saturday in April. By working to better housing conditions, Christmas in April aims to preserve and revitalize houses and communities in order to make a sustainable impact in Prince George’s County.
For 30 years, they have repaired 2,662 homes with over 90,700 volunteers at an estimated $47.8 million worth of free labor to neighborhoods in Prince George’s County. This year alone, 79 homes were repaired and 3,200 volunteers participated. Through our Community Building Blocks program, Community Forklift has been able to offer Christmas in April free appliances, building materials, hardware, and other supplies for the homes.
