Dirt-cheap shrubs, edible plants, straw bales, decking, & more!

Landscaping materials

arriving Oct. 5th!!!

Hello from your friends at Community Forklift, the DC area’s thrift store for home improvement and architectural salvage!

Did you get a chance to visit the Solar Decathalon down on the Mall?  The U.S. Department of Energy challenged collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive (And this year, the hometown team won – congratulations to our friends at UMD!!!)

As they break down their exhibits, many of the teams have contacted us about donating truckloads of leftover landscaping items, including:

  • decking and railing,

  • small trees & shrubs,

  • hundreds of edible plants, and

  • straw bales

We’re still not sure exactly what we’ll get, but starting this Wednesday, Oct. 5th at 10 am, it will all be here waiting for you!  (Go www.communityforklift.org for store hours and directions)

Priced to move

We don’t have much room for this stuff, and we’re not set up to water hundreds of plants – so we will be pricing them to move!  For example, we expect that most shrubs, grasses, and trees will be priced at $1 – $10 each.  Straw bales (perfect for a fall or Halloween display in your yard) will be only $2 each.

Freebies to nonprofits

Please spread the word:  we may be able to donate some of these materials to nonprofits and community gardens! (you just need to bring in your 501c3 letter in with you during store hours)
