For the very first time, a team from Community Forklift will participate in the annual Polar Bear Plunge to “keep winter cold!” and raise money for the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN). Once a year, activists, friends, and families in the Chesapeake region demonstrate their commitment to combat climate change by taking a dip in the icy Potomac River.
If you would like to join the “Forklift Freezers”, either by swimming or by cheering harborside, contact Events(at)CommunityForklift.org.

“We decided to do this event because our staff feels really connected to the cause”, says Meg Kiernan, Program Coordinator at the `Lift. “Even though Community Forklift is sometimes seen as just a thrift store, the people who work here see it as so much more – we want to promote habits that consider environmental impact first.”
The Chesapeake Climate Action Network is dedicated to building a movement in MD,DC, and VA to promote policy changes that put us on a path to climate stability. “We are two local organizations who are creating a grassroots environmental movement in two very different ways,” Meg says, “but every effort is needed.”
