Hello Forklift Fans – Many of you know Doug, the tall and friendly guy who has been here for almost a decade.  Well, he’s moving away!  We’re excited that he has some great new opportunities for his family out west, but we’re so sad to say goodbye.

REUSE STORE MANAGER

Community Forklift is seeking a Store Manager to work full-time with our growing green business. The Store Manager (SM) is primarily responsible for the general oversight and management of the Community Forklift (CF) warehouse and retail/reuse operation. The SM oversees the Receiving & Processing team, the Pricing team, the Sales team and the Donations team and coordinates inter-team cooperation. The SM ensures that behind-the-scenes scheduling and staffing levels are adequate for each team and works with the teams’ coordinators to resolve conflicts. The SM will manage the space in the retail and processing warehouses to ensure proper flow-through of building and vintage materials, generating sales and income for Community Forklift. The SM will manage and maintain the store’s cleanliness, shop-ability, merchandising displays and consignment spaces. The SM will display a high level of commitment to our environmental, sustainability and reuse mission in keeping with Community Forklift’s goals as a non-profit organization committed to its people, planet, and prosperity.

Qualities of the perfect candidate

  1. Prior experience successfully managing a retail or reuse store
  2. Experience in a warehouse environment strongly preferred
  3. Expertise in merchandising and displays
  4. Excellent customer service skills, including being patient and courteous
  5. Construction and/or knowledge of building materials required
  6. Knowledge or interest in vintage and antique items preferred
  7. Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety
  8. Strong computer literacy skills with an ability to respond to customers regularly via email, create and manage documents in Microsoft Word and Excel, efficiently maintain contacts and other information electronically, and familiarity using databases
  9. Superior attention to detail
  10. Ability to follow through on work assignments in a timely manner
  11. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain focus in a constantly changing environment
  12. Excellent people management skills including the ability to train, organize and lead teams of staff members and coordinate multi-team projects
  13. Evidence of being highly energetic, self-starting, entrepreneurial and creative in developing ideas and opportunities
  14. Evidence of strong organizational skills in managing time, information, competing demands and diverse client base
  15. Knowledge and enthusiasm for recycling, reuse, sustainability, environmental advocacy and green business
  16. Expressed commitment to the Community Forklift mission

About the Position

  • Full time — up to 40 hours a week; must be available to work weekend shifts
  • Manage incoming donations and product processing
  • Manage and maintain the retail, processing and storage areas of CF to maximize shop-ability, cleanliness, safety, aesthetics and sales
  • Maintain a safe warehouse work environment to ensure staff and customer safety
  • Assist customers and resolve customer conflicts
  • Supervise and manage staff to ensure high quality customer service and to encourage teamwork and collaboration
  • Identify, track and meet departmental goals including revenue
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all staff to fulfill the mission and support team activities

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center for home improvement and architectural salvage. The store accepts donations of new, gently-used and vintage building materials; these donated renovation supplies are then made available to the public at low prices and donated to local nonprofits.
