One of our neighbors here in the Port Towns asked us to share an exciting event: a handful of local and national organizations have joined together to encourage Spanish-speaking youth to enjoy our public lands! This Sunday, attendees can learn from entomologists (scientists who study bugs) and act as citizen scientists through the smartphone apps iNaturalist and iTree. Scientists, educators, and attendees will explore how we can help solve problems with invasive species like the emerald ash borer beetle, which has killed millions of trees in our country, affecting the quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the well-being of our communities.
Children and adults are invited to enjoy the beautiful ponds, lotuses, and water lilies at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in SE DC. Take action to help protect our trees and communities, and learn how we can all contribute to the restoration of our trees and forests. You must be ready to observe, listen, learn, dance, eat, and make new friends. All 4th grade students who attend will receive a free annual pass for Every Kid in a Park and will be able to visit public lands such as forests, parks, and wetlands until September 1 with the whole family! The event is FREE, but you must register in advance. Sign up today and find more event details at https://www.corazonlatino.us/events/
