Did you know that Community Forklift partners with local nonprofits and provides them with low-cost or free materials to support their work?
Our newest nonprofit partner, A Cat’s Life Rescue based in Mount Rainier, MD, provides a trap-neuter-release program that aims to control the feral cat population by humanely trapping, spaying or neutering, and then releasing feral cats. A Cat’s Life Rescue also facilitates cat adoptions, medical care for cats, and educational and therapeutic programs.
This past November they hosted a shelter-building workshop where folks created insulated cat houses that will be placed in neighborhoods with large feral cat populations. Kelley Bevis, Executive Director of A Cat’s Life Rescue, applied for a grant through our Community Building Blocks (CBB) Program, which distributes building materials for projects that serve the greater community. Through the program, Community Forklift provided A Cat’s Life Rescue with free paints for the cat houses.
Here’s what the nonprofit had to say about their recent workshop:
We had a blast building shelters for community cats yesterday, what a creative and compassionate bunch! Thanks to about 50 wonderful builders, there will be 40 new shelters in Prince George’s County keeping cats warm and cozy this winter. A HUGE thank you to Art Works Now for their continued support of our work, Barbara Johnson, Kelly Weiss, Adam Jablonski, and also Mark Winstead for leading the workshop. We couldn’t do this without our community and we are blown away by the generosity of all who donated supplies and funding to make this workshop happen. THANK YOU! 😻 And now, a special thanks to the event’s generous sponsors:
