Receiving and Processing Associate

Community Forklift is seeking a Receiving and Processing Associate to work full-time with our growing green business. This person will assist with the receiving and processing of donated building materials. Responsibilities include cleaning, repair and organization of donated items, coordinating with the Pricing and Sales Teams for pricing and merchandising, and assisting with day-to-day operations of the warehouse and sales areas of the facility.

Qualities of the perfect candidate
• Working knowledge of building materials or architectural salvage; prior work experience in a hardware store preferred but not required
• Familiarity and enthusiasm for recycling, reuse, sustainability, environmental advocacy and green business
• Expressed commitment to the Community Forklift mission
• Works well in a cooperative team-based environment
• Excellent organizational and customer service skills
• Ability to follow through on work assignments in a timely manner
• Capacity to perform physical labor and moderate to heavy lifting in a non-climate controlled environment, including the ability to work in all seasons and in difficult weather conditions
• Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong English speaking and writing skills; bilingual Spanish preferred

About the Position
• 40 hours a week
• Unload and process donated materials accurately and efficiently
• Organize priced building materials and products to facilitate easy distribution to the sales floor
• Support Pricing and Sales Teams
• Help keep the processing areas organized and clean
• Monitor and maintain inventory of pricing supplies
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff to fulfill the mission and support team activities

About Community Forklift
Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center for home improvement and architectural salvage. The store accepts donations of new, gently-used and vintage building materials; these donated renovation supplies are then made available to the public at low prices and donated to local nonprofits. Community Forklift is located outside Northeast DC, near the Hyattsville Arts District.

Online Sales Associate

Community Forklift is seeking an experienced Online Sales Associate to work with our growing green business. This is a full-time position. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. We are seeking someone with knowledge of vintage and antique furniture, lighting, hardware, and housewares. This position will include handling high end and bulk surplus products. This position is ideal for someone with a vast knowledge of vintage and antique pricing.

At Community Forklift, you’ll find…
A nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting the community through sustainability, creativity, and economic opportunity. Community Forklift is a reuse warehouse where donated building materials and architectural salvage are made available to neighbors in need, homeowners, nonprofits, contractors and artists at low-cost or for free. It’s a place where the community gathers, learns, and plays together.

What you’ll be doing…
You will be responsible for identifying valuable, unusual or high dollar items from our stream of donations. You will accurately identify what the product is, research an appropriate price, and photograph and write a description of the item with search engine optimization. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to research the item’s age, value, and use. You will interact with customers in a timely manner, answering questions, and promoting our sustainable green non-profit business. You will also pack and ship items quickly in order to maintain our top-seller status.

Qualities of the perfect candidate
At least three years of experience researching, photographing, and listing items for sale online. Must have extensive knowledge of platforms such as eBay, Chairish, or Craigslist.
• Experience selling vintage or antique materials
• Knowledge of vintage, antique and high end furniture, lighting, hardware, and housewares
• Retail sales experience
• Strong math and English skills
• Ability to do computer research with a high attention to detail
• Ability to work well in a cooperative team-based environment
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to fully follow through on assignments in a timely manner
• Ability to follow store policy and procedures
• Ability to provide excellent service to a very diverse constituency of customers
• Entrepreneurial approach to work
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adjust to changing priorities
• Knowledge and enthusiasm for recycling, reuse, and sustainability
