Community Forklift

Lifting up communities through reuse

Save Money While Going Green in 2019
In January, Forklifters always look to the coming year for ways to save resources, keep more stuff out of landfills, and make our community and our world a better place. Here are a few suggestions of how Community Forklift can help with your green resolutions:
  • Updating your Christmas decorations? If your old ones are in good shape, donate instead of dumping them.
  • Donate unwanted gifts (we won’t tell!).
  • Buy vintage furniture to add character to your home.
  • Starting a DIY project? Use salvaged and surplus materials from the Forklift.
  • Downsizing or moving to a new home? Declutter by donating to the Forklift. Schedule a pickup online.
  • Planning to garden this year? Save the date for Community Forklift’s annual Garden Party on April 6th. Learn more.
Community Forklift is always working toward saving our planet and making our community a better place to live.
We’re taking ‘The Plunge’
Our hard work doesn’t just happen in the warehouse! On January 26, support us as we take the 2019 Polar Bear Plunge with the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN).
Forklift Freezers
2018 Forklift Freezers before their plunge
This is our sixth year fighting climate change by running into the icy Potomac River with activists from across the region. It sounds crazy, but it’s also a great time and a great cause!
CCAN’s work has a direct impact on our communities and recently celebrated two major victories:
Governor Hogan’s vote rejected permitting the “Potomac Pipeline” in Maryland
DC Council approved the Clean Energy DC Act, requiring DC to be powered by 100% renewable energy by 2032
How you can take part (and stay warm!)
DONATE! Each of the Forklift Freezers hopes to raise $350 or more, and we have a team goal of more than $1,000. When we meet our goal, the Forklift receives part of the proceeds! Support our icy recklessness by donating to your favorite Forklifter.
How to show your mettle

JOIN THE TEAM! If the cold doesn’t scare you, we’re always looking for more fools… err, Salvage Superheroes… to plunge with us. Email Rachel for details or sign up online and join our team!
